safeTALK Training

Pre-registration is required for this event

The program, safeTALK, focuses on suicide alertness training for the general public and is geared toward participants aged 16 and older. Its premise is that most people with thoughts of suicide don’t truly want to die, but are struggling with physical and/or emotional pain in their lives. Through their words and actions, they invite those with whom they interact to provide help to stay alive. safeTALK-trained helpers can recognize these invitations and take action by connecting these individuals with life-saving intervention resources.

$10, pre-registration required, includes lunch and snack.

ORGANIZERS: Glade United Church of Christ and The Frederick Center, Inc.
WHEN: September 23, 2017 from 9:00 am-12:30 pm
WHERE: Evangelical Reformed United Church of Christ located at 15 W. Church St., Frederick, MD 21701 in downtown Frederick. Registrants will be advised of the meeting room in the church facility closer to the date.
TRAINERS: The training will be presented by LivingWorks, a national organization recognized by the Mental Health Association of Frederick County that is a leader in suicide intervention training.

Access to support from a local community resource person
Powerful audiovisual learning aids
Review of simple yet effective TALK steps: Tell, Ask, Listen, and Keep Safe
Hands-on skills practice and development

Please make checks payable to : Glade United Church of Christ and indicate safeTALK in the memo line. There is space for 30 participants and we will fill those spaces on a first come, first served basis. Registrants must be 16 or older. Snack and lunch will be served.
